Spay or neuter?

Ferrets need to be spayed or neutered in order to be good household pets. Females develop an anemia if they are not bred and can die from being in perpetual heat. Males smell really awful if left unneutered. They have a smelly and oily musk in their fur which the neuter mostly eliminates.  A neutered hob loses most of the characteristic smell, will live with other ferrets and is quieter (as a rule) to handle. The best age to have them neutered is between 7 and 8 months when they have matured and before they come in season. Neutering a hob is a quick operation and most hobs go home from the vets the same day. Note - It can take up to six weeks for the musky odour to reduce and for him to accept living with other ferrets. Also a castrated hob cannot take jills out of season.

Male (Hob) or Female (Jill)?

Both make wonderful pets. Personally, I love a big fluffy hob. In general, hobs tend to be calmer, a little more laid back and cuddly. Now that being said, we have a jill who is as sweet as can be, loves to cuddle and hang out with you.  We also have a hob who zips around the place like he is running the Indy 500 and is just a busy body getting into everything there is! Jills do tend to be more active. These are just generalizations as each ferret will exhibit their own individual characteristics.

Do Ferrets bite?

In short, the answer is yes. Kits often play with each other rather roughly by biting and nipping. This is fine for them because of the thickness of their skin. However, the same nip on human skin can be painful. But with patience and loving discipline they can be taught to curb this habit. Most as they grow older, grow out of the "nippy" stage.

Payments?

Payments are accepted via credit card, money order, Paypal and cash. A deposit is required to reserve a kit. Price does vary based on the type of ferret: angora, semi-angora or standard.

Availability?

Kits are available during certain times of the year. We follow the natural breeding cycles therefore look for kits during the spring. Because we are a small breeding operation the number available kits will be limited so reserve your new friend now. If you have special requests for gender or color, do not hesitate to contact me.
